As part of the “Learn 2 Teach, Teach 2 Learn” (L2T, T2L) program (and sponsored by MassIMPACT), this project proposes to train high-school urban youth at the South End Technology Center to develop digital storytelling skills, create inspiring movies and explore new venues for dissemination, dialogue and reflection.
The proposed digital storytelling module will be added to L2T, T2L program this year, giving students an opportunity to integrate a number of media production skills and learn creative ways to articulate their ideas and express themselves. The topic will focus on the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in their lives. They will be encouraged to use various writing/production techniques (story, poem, rap song) in order to create a compelling and personal digital film that can serve as an inspiration to other urban youth around the region and country. The product will take the form of a reflective piece that they are required to create in summer. Students can also incorporate the skills into their summer project as appropriate. As part of the project, Sheela Sethuraman, lead project implementer and facilitator, will be documenting her experience, sharing the curriculum developed and an evaluation report with MassIMPACT and the Stories For Change community.
