Seven youth from the Kino Neighborhoods were chosen to participate in a basic digital storytelling workshop. They share their voice to inspire a greater sense of community, understanding and awareness through a glimpse of their struggles and passions.
This training was a gathering of youth from Cook Inlet and Togiak who came together and share stories related to the problem of obesity and other health issues affecting young people in rural Alaska today. Sponsored by UNITY, these stories will be part of a advocacy campaign to promote understanding and healthy solutions.
This program will run for two cycles, one in Fall 2008 and one in Spring 2009. Seven youth ages 14-20 from the Kino neighborhoods will be selected to participate in each cycle. In the community digital storytelling workshops, youth come together to share their stories about challenges and injustices with one another; craft and record written, first-person scripts; choose images and video clips; and learn to edit these materials with still images and video clips.
