- Sign up for a membership on StoriesForChange.net*. You'll need to be able to check your email to complete the process.
*You can decide if you want to upload all the stories yourself, or to have each producer create an account and upload the story themself. - Fill out your Profile (on right side of the page under your name) so the SFC members know who you are!
Submit an Event, but clicking on Share Your Events in the top navigation bar.
- Make sure to include the Location, Organziations involved, and a brief description of the workshop and its purpose. This event could be a workshop, screening, meeting or conference.
[HINT: Copy the description into Notepad or Textpad, and create a shorter version to use later on each story page.]
- Upload photos of the workshop or some stills from stories to make the Event page more flashy!
- Make sure to click the Submit button to submit your event.
- Make sure to include the Location, Organziations involved, and a brief description of the workshop and its purpose. This event could be a workshop, screening, meeting or conference.
- Collect the exported story video files at the end of a workshop, preferably all in one place like a data DVD or a firewire drive.
[HINT: You can have workshop participants sign up for their own accounts on StoriesForChange.net and upload the stories themselves as a final distribution step at the end of a workshop.] - Write a short description of each story, including information on this story's strong points (great images, voice, timing etc.), the context in which it was made, why the storyteller chose to tell this particular story, and/or any significant challenges or triumphs he/she encountered making the story. It works well to do this in a basic text editor like Notepad or Textpad (if you use MS Word or WordPerfect, you might struggle a bit with the formatting in the rich text editor).
Return to StoriesForChange.net and click the Share Your Stories link or the Upload a Story button in the top navigation bar.
- Click the Browse button and find the story video file on your local computer. Don't forget to click the Attach button.
- Once the file has finished uploading, click the checkbox to list the file if you think anyone will want to download the file or embed their story in any other websites.
- Fill out all the fields including Title, Tags, Topics, and Organization - the more information you include here, the more context a viewer has for the making of the story and it makes it easier for viewers to search.
- Make sure to add the name of the Storyteller as the creator of the story, if you're uploading someone else's story for them.
- Choose a Creative Commons license if you want to designate when and if people can use parts of your story in their own work (such as examples in curriculum or parts of the audio/visual in new works).
- Copy and paste that shortened Event Description into the Collaborators field.
- Copy and paste the description you wrote into the Description field.
- VERY IMPORTANT: in the Related Events pulldown menu, choose your event.
- Remember to click the Submit button!
- When you return to your Event's page, you should start to see any stories uploaded with that Related Event field chosen in a bulleted list.
- The event will show up in the Events Archive , and you can send the http:// address to this event to all the workshop participants.
Other ways to spruce up your Event page:
- Upload photos you take during the making of the stories to Flickr and add a Flickr badge, that you can add to the Event page.
- Add hyperlinks to participant's organizations and campaigns in the Event's Description field.
- Add some quotes from the story in the Description field.
