My     Story --------Catherine   Huang.

I was born on May 16, 1969 . I   knew  that  while  I  could  not  decide  my  birthday, but  I  would  be  able  to  choose  my  wedding date. My  husband  and I performed  a  marriage  ceremony on  May  16 , my birthday ,1999, for  me,  our  marriage  was  my second  birthday. Every May 16 , my  husband  buys  some  roses and a box  of  chocolates for me, and he cooks  some  delicious   food  . Since  I  could  not  get  pregnant  in  China ,my  sisters-in- law  tried  to  persuade  my  husband to sue  for  a  divorce. However, my husband loved me very much, he rejected any recommendations of his sisters. My  husband  told his three  sisters :" Although  my  wife cannot  get  pregnant, I still  love her. I will not give her up, and I must look after her forever." I also love my husband. In spite  of  the fact that my husband made a  love promise, I became  determined to immigrate to Canada to escape  the  bad influence  of  my husband's  family. On October 3, 2006, my husband and I arrived in Edmonton. As my husband's English was not good, he could not find a professional   job in Canada. My English  was better than  my husband’s , yet  I  could  not  be a  medical  laboratory  technologist  here. We had to do some arduous work as   labourers to meet our living costs in Canada. Consequently, we were often lost in translation.  I cried and cried, for I could not go back to my agency to work in China. My husband sighed and sighed, for we had to face many challenges and some awkward predicaments. Nonetheless, we still loved each other. Surprisingly, in  May of  2007, my  family  doctor confirmed  some  information  which  made  my husband  ecstatic. I was pregnant! My family doctor told me," In Canada, the air is clean, and so is the water   . It is easy for you to get pregnant." Later, we got a lot of help from federal, provincial, and municipal governments, charities, and religious groups. I am thankful to Canadians for all this help. This  year , my husband , my daughter, and  I  are going to celebrate  a  special  wedding  anniversary  and  my  birthday in Canada. I love Canada, for Canada is my new home. Because China is my motherland, I love China, too.
