Here's a checklist I created for the youth teachers at the South End Technology Center's Learn 2 Teach, Teach 2 Learn program, so they could track their progress working as a group to complete a digital story. This might be helpful for workshop participants to keep track of their progress or for anyone doing story production over multiple sessions.
BASIC STEPS:
- Brainstorm an IDEA for your Story
- Write Script
- Record Audio Narration
- Storyboard
- Collect Images
- Digital photos you take yourself
- Photo prints (that you need to digitize by using a scanner)
- Images from Web (copyright free, of course!)
- Artifacts (flyers, objects, etc you scan)
- Manipulate images
- Get images to 720 by 480 pixels, 300 dpi, Landscape (4:3), and .jpg
- Adjust brightness, contrast, cropping or add effects
- Find/create background MUSIC (again, copyright free)
- Build/Edit your video file (using Windows Movie Maker)
- Rough Cut (get some feedback from others)
- Final Cut
- Export (as DV/AVI for DVD and a web version)
- Distribute (on DVD, on MySpace, and/or on StoriesForChange.net)
- Download setc_ds_checklist1.doc - 36 KB
