LaRita shares her families history as Native Americans in the education system and how it has motivated her to become the teacher and advocate she is today.
I am a Health Educator at Southcentral Foundation, Anchorage, AK. I grew up in the village of Larsen Bay on Kodiak Island. I am of Alutiiq and European decent. I am a very big supporter of Native tradition and storytelling to pass on our culture and way of life to our children. It is very important to me that children have culturally relevant curriculum, as I know if leads to an overall sense of value and pride. I am also a Native jewelry designer.
