This story asks more questions than it gives answers, on the issues of body image, eating disorders, and judging ourselves based on the shade of our skin.
Latinas y Que! will show digital stories produced during the month of May in a workshop taught by the Center for Digital Storytelling. Topics of the stories include dealng with stereotypes and racism, immigration experiences, surviving domestic abuse, convincing your friends to NOT get pregnant, parents and educational success. This is a community screening.
Jayme, an active member of her community and staff at the Mandela Residents Cooperative Association, came to the workshop with the intent to create a story about the benefits of mentoring with young women. Through the story circle experience, she realized that she could convey her message more dramatically with her own story as a teenage mother and how mentoring has affected her life in positive way.
