"The Middle of the Story" by filmmaker Sojouner 4 Truth discusses the impact of colorism and negative media images on African Americans in general, and African American girls in particular.  It also highlights the importance of culture, history and family in reshaping how we see one another.  This an excellent primer for discussions on race, gender, skin color, body image and self-esteem.  Highly recommended for cross-cultural conversations as well as conversations between males and females.

Help Stories for Change Celebrate Youth Voices!

In honor of International Youth Day,  we are excited to announce our online campaign to feature digital stories made by youth from around the world that are working to make the world a better place. Starting August 12th through September 2nd, we will be displaying a rotating assortment of stories on the homepage as well as encouraging dialogue on strategies for doing digital storytelling projects with youth.

Me and a lot of great people had worked hard to make this possible. Finally I arrived and things were not so happy at the beginning because of cultural shock but by the time is life experience.

Digital Hero Book Project: Young People in Sub-Saharan Africa Share Their Struggles and Successes

REPSSI’s Hero Book approach leads groups of children through a series of autobiographical storytelling and art exercises to find solutions to personal and social challenges they face. It has been used throughout sub-Saharan Africa for five years, primarily as a way of providing psychosocial care and support to children affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty, and conflict.
