It’s important for us to remember how terrifyingly fast Covid-19 showed up in our lives, and how quickly families were faced with the unthinkable. Miguel describes saying goodbye as his wife heads to the hospital, “almost like someone going to war wondering if you will hold them again.” How does the language Miguel uses convey the emotional nature of his experience? What effect does going day by day (Day 2 . . . Day 3. . . Day 5 . . . ) have on his story?
Miguel describes getting a goodbye call from his wife and having to turn his attention to funeral arrangements. At the same time, he is monitoring his own and his son’s health, and meeting the demands of daily life. How would you describe Miguel’s response to the emotional, as well as physical, demands he faced?
