ShayLinn had multiple injuries, a traumatic brain injury, and lost her memory for a time. Think about the opening of her video—the image of the butterfly and the message, “Keep Going.” According to the medical professionals, ShayLinn’s future looked bleak, with little chance of recovering what she had lost. What made it possible for her to keep going? How do you think she managed to overcome all the obstacles she faced?
At the end of her story, Shaylinn says, “Life is so precious and everyone deserves a second chance and to not let their past define who they are… You can do anything. Believe in yourself.” How good do you think we are as a society at giving people second chances? How much are we defined by our pasts? How do you break through those boundaries and redefine yourself?
