Steve opens his video with his promise: “I will report to my post as a first responder, to care for my districts, and I will be there for you in any capacity you need. All you need do is ask.” Think about the promise Steve makes. What words or phrases stand out MOST to you in his statement?
What do you learn about Steve’s experience during the pandemic that demonstrates the cost of his promise? Do you think we, as a society, offered enough support for our first responders? Steve describes the period of sleep deprivation and frantic activity by sharing a series of quickly flashing photos that includes one of himself in the hot tub. How does it compare to an earlier image of him? What does the entire segment of flashing photos and later, the whispered voices, convey to the viewer?
The immediate effect of the pandemic and its impact on our mental health became clear, but many people still deal with lingering, sometimes long-term, effects. Do you still feel the effects of the pandemic in your own life? How so? What support exists for people, now that the health emergency has officially ended?
