One of the images in Arnold’s video is of an hourglass. It’s a moment that highlights Arnold’s commitment to his education, despite all the difficulties of the pandemic. What do you think made it possible for Arnold to keep his educational goals alive? Arnold spoke of his concern for the high death rates as hospitals ran at maximum capacity, and noted how he followed all CDC recommendations. The public became very divided about CDC recommendations and which behaviors were necessary. What do you think happened that so many people, in Arnold’s words, “tried to downplay the seriousness of the situation”? What was the effect on the country? At the end of Arnold’s video, he says he thinks we “should be proud of ourselves.” Think about your own experience of the pandemic. What is something that you’re proud of?
